Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Simmon's 21 Leads Chargers on the Road at Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, N.H. – Redshirt freshman Ethan Simmon's (Edison, N.J./St. Joseph Metuchen) eighth straight game in double figures and his fourth 20+ effort in that stretch led the New Haven men's basketball team (5-11, 2-8 NE10) in a 94-74 setback on the road at Franklin Pierce on Wednesday night.

Simmon was one of two players in the game to finish with 20+ on the night while he led a trio of Chargers who racked up double figures joined by grad transfer Tyler Saint-Furcy (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence Woodmere Academy) with 16 points and senior Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) with 13 points, the latter extending his double figure scoring streak to 13-straight games while he has scored in double digits in all but one of the 16 games on the year.

Simmon's 21 points on the night came on an 8-of-15 shooting performance, with five of his eight field goals coming from outside the three point arc. Saint-Furcy finished his night shooting 50% from the field on 4-of-8 total with a pair of three pointers while leading the way at the free throw line where he was 6-of-8. Thomas wrapped up the leaders shooting 5-of-11 overall.

Following that trio in the scoring column was sophomore Justin Hendrick (Valley Stream, N.Y./St. Francis) and junior Jason Edokpayi (Laurel, Md./Mount St. Joseph) who each chipped in seven and junior Jojo Lingisi-Ombongo (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Thomas More) who added five. As a team, the Chargers shot 43.3 percent from the field, connecting on 26-of-30 with 11 of those 26 field goals coming from outside the three point arc. They were also 11-of-18 at the free throw line.

The Chargers will return to action on Saturday as they continue a stretch of three-straight weekends with a home game, welcoming the Saint Rose Golden Knights to West Haven on Saturday, January 20. Tip off against the Golden Knights is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. following the women's game with all of the action available live on the Chargers Sports Network on NE10Now.tv
