Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Thomas Drops 25 to Lead Chargers in Home Win over Saint Rose

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) scored a season-high 25 points, extending his double figure streak to 14-straight games and leading the New Haven men's basketball team to a 53-48 home win over the visiting Saint Rose Golden Knights. With the win, New Haven improves to 6-11 overall and 3-8 in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Thomas was one of a trio of Chargers to finish in double figures, joined by grad transfer Tyler Saint-Furcy (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence Woodmere Academy) and junior transfer Tarese Morse (Springfield, Mass./Springfield) who finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Morse led all scorers in the game as he finished 3-of-3 from the field and added a 4-of-6 effort at the free throw line, adding to that three rebounds, a steal, an assist and a pair of blocks.

The Chargers senior Guard saw score 22 of his 25 points in the second half as he finished the game shooting 8-of-14 from the field with half of those field goals coming from outside the three point arc. He also added five points at the free throw line which came on six attempts. Thomas added to his 25 points nine rebounds and a steal.

The New Haven defense came up big in the second half as they erased a nearly double figure deficit by holding the Golden Knights without a basket for over 11 minutes down the stretch. That defensive stand allowed New Haven to erase the deficit and take an eventual eight point lead with 2:26 remaining. Thomas would secure the victory with a pair of perfect trips to the line in the final minute.

As a team, New Haven finished the game shooting 37.2 percent from the field, connecting on 16-of-43 overall, with six of the 16 baskets from outside the three point arc. The Chargers added 15 points at the free throw line, those coming on 22 attempts.

The stop at home for the Blue and Gold was brief as they will head right back on the road for a trip to the Empire State to take on the Pace Setters as they begin their second trip through the Northeast-10 Conference schedule. Tip-off against the Golden Knights is set for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, with all of the action available live on the Chargers Sports Network on NE10Now.tv
