Johnson Scores 11 as Chargers Fall at Home to Saint Rose

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Playing against her former team for the first time as a Charger, graduate transfer Makaela Johnson (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) showed off her distance going a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc and led the New Haven women's basketball team (6-9, 2-9 NE10) with 11 points as the Chargers dropped a 50-37 decision to the visiting Saint Rose Golden Knights.

Johnson's 11 points led all Chargers in the scoring column as she was the only one to reach double figures. In addition to her three buckets from beyond the arc, she also went 2-of-3 at the free throw line while adding a pair of rebounds and two assists.

Joining her in leading the scoring efforts was graduate post player Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) and junior Charlotte Bassett (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) who each finished with seven points. Deshaies added that to 11 rebounds to extend her team lead in that category as she quickly approaches the 1,000 rebound plateau where she would be the fourth player in program history to reach that mark in both scoring and rebounding.

As a team, New Haven finished the afternoon shooting 27.5 percent from the field, connecting on 14-of-51 field goal attempts with five of the 14 field goals coming from outside the three point arc. The Chargers also finished 4-of-6 at the free throw line.

The stop at home for the Blue and Gold was brief as they will head right back on the road for a trip to the Empire State to take on the Pace Setters as they begin their second trip through the Northeast-10 Conference schedule. Tip-off against the Golden Knights is set for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, with all of the action available live on the Chargers Sports Network on NE10Now.tv
