PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – As graduate post player Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) makes a run at becoming just the fourth place in program history to reach 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds, the Syracuse, N.Y. native made a big jump on Wednesday night as she pulled down 18 boards to lead the New Haven women's basketball team as they fell to the Pace Setters 55-44 on the road.
Deshaies 18 rebounds was a season-high and put her at 930 rebounds for her career as she quickly approaches her second major milestone of the season. The post player added her team-high 18 rebounds to nine points as she connected on 4-of-10 from the field against the Setters.
Leading all New Haven scorers on the night was junior guard Charlotte Bassett (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) who finished with 11 points while junior transfer Nayeli Dowding (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) matched Deshaies with nine points and sophomore Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) followed that trio with eight points. Overall, seven different players finished with at least one point in the scoring column.
Bassett's team-high 11 points came on a 5-of-13 shooting effort, with one of her five field goals coming from outside the three point arc, adding to her scoring with three rebounds and a pair of steals.
As a team, New Haven finished the game shooting 27.9 percent from the field, connecting on 19 field goals in 68 attempts. Three of the 19 field goals came from outside the three point arc, while they added 3-of-5 points at the free throw line.
In the rebounding column, Deshaies 18 boards were part of 43 total for the Chargers as they finished tied with the Setters in the battle of the boards. One area of success for the Blue and Gold came on the offensive glass where 18 of the 43 rebounds came, while the Chargers turned those into 12 second chance points. New Haven also won the battle in the paint with a 28-12 margin.
The road trip for the Chargers is short lived as they will return to West Haven to open up back-to-back home games at the Jeffery P. Hazell Athletic Center. First up in the two-straight at home will be a visit from the No. 11 Bentley Falcons on Saturday, January 27 with tip off scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
