Mitchell's Late Goal and Daley's Key Saves see New Haven Draw with Saint Michael's

COLCHESTER, Vermont – Coming off their last second goal against the Setters of Pace to capture the draw at home, the University of New Haven Women's Soccer team traveled up to Colchester to take on the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College for an afternoon conference battle.

In the first half both teams battled but were level after 45 minutes in the books that saw Caitlin Daley (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) make three saves as Saint Michael's goalie made a save in the half to keep it all level 0-0 after one half. In the second, New Haven put the pressure on Saint Michael's. Daley made the big saves she needed, denying the Purple Knights a goal including a diving save at the edge of the 18 to close out on a one on one battle. Saint Michael's broke through on a back post goal in the 67 minute. New Haven used that as their energy and locked saint Michael's into their own half of the field. New Haven knocked on the door with a pair of corners in under a minute. After a foul by Saint Michael's, Caroline Ennis (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) switched fields to Riley Drosopoulos (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) who sent a cross to Emma Mitchell (Edinburgh, Scotland/Liberton) who with composure turned and used her left foot and found the back of the net and equalized the match 1-1. Daley facing a two on one against the Purple Knights in the box, Daley dove to make a ke save in the 85 minute to keep it 1-1. Daly made a few more key saves late to bring her save total to six as Mitchell had the equalizer in the 1-1 draw with the Purple Knights.

New Haven returns home for a non-conference match up when they welcome the Dolphins of Staten Island in a midweek contest. The Dolphins swim up to West Haven on Wednesday October 16 with kick-off scheduled for 4:00 PM from Kathy Zolad stadium and on the Charger Sports Network on FloSports. All updates, schedules, and post-match recaps for the team will be available at Newhavenchargers.com.
