Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Chargers Spread the Wealth in 4-1 Road Win at Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Stepping away from Northeast-10 Conference play for the final time in the regular season, the New Haven men's soccer team put on a scoring clinic in its road game at Staten Island on Saturday, returning to West Haven with a 4-1 victory improving to 9-3-2 overall on the season.

All four of the Chargers goals came from different players, three from its starting 11 while Rintaro Miyawaki (Saipan, Northern Mariana Island/Eastchester) came off the bench to net his first goal as a Charger in 25 minutes of action. The sophomores first goal in Blue and Gold was the third of the day for New Haven and came in partnership with Kaanturk Akgul (Istanbul, Turkey/Anatolian) who picked up the assist.

The first goal of the afternoon came from Saar Almoznino (Jerusalem, Israel/Hebrew Gymnasium) in the 37th minute off a set piece on a corner kick opportunity. Yans Alarcon (Miami, Fla./Miami Beach Senior) served the corner into the box where it bounced around to the feet of Almoznino who finished it off with his first goal of the season.

The Almoznino goal was the lone score at the end of the first 45 minutes as the Chargers held the slim advantage in the break. They would add to it rather quickly, scoring the final three goals in a 10 minute span, beginning just seven minutes into the second half.

The second goal of the day, the eventual game-winning goal was another first time goal scorer as Davide Maiello (Novara, Italy/Liceo Carlo Alberto) found the back of the net thanks to a pass from Jourdain. In what was a defensive miscue by the Dolphins, Jourdain intercepted a pass forward and chipped it ahead to Maiello who collected and fired from just outside the 18-yard box straight away.

Miyawaki struck next just over three minutes later as he drove a header off another corner kick set piece that Akgul sent in with the sophomore Miyawaki tracking it down on the far side of the box just a few yards off the goal line.

Adam Lindstrom (Orbero, Sweden/Grillska Gymnasiet) was the final player to net a Charger goal as he scored in the 62nd minute to give his squad a 4-0 lead at the time. This time around it was a long cross from Pau Santanach (Barcelona, Spain/Collegi CreaNova) to the opposite side of the goal where Lindstrom was making a cut to the goal and easily chipped in his fifth goal of the season.

Overall for the game, New Haven held a 17-9 lead in the shot column with the Chargers keeping duo of Archie Watts (Bristol, England/SGS College) and Kyle Mather (Amesbury, Mass./Central Catholic) forced to make just two saves on the afternoon, both from Watts who started and played the first 59 minutes before Mather took over.

A big test awaits the Blue and Gold next time they take the field as they will face off against a Southern New Hampshire Team that currently leads the Northeast-10 Conference with a perfect 7-0 record in league action. In what will be the only action of the week for the Chargers, New Haven and the Penmen will kickoff under the lights at Kathy Zolad Stadium at 6:00 p.m. with all of the action available on NE10 Now on Flo College.
