Kvarnback Scores Late as Chargers Fall in NE10 Championship Match

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Playing in the league title game for the first time in program history, the Chargers looked to erase a two-goal deficit late in the game with a flurry of action but were only able to muster a single goal, dropping a 2-1 decision to the No. 1 seeded Southern New Hampshire Penmen. With the decision, New Haven falls to 12-4-3 on the season and will await word on Monday evening if they have earned one of 10 berths in Super Region 1 of the Division II National Playoffs.

The Chargers lone goal of the game came late in the 80th minute as Kvarnback found the back of the net for the second-straight game, this time working off an assist from Pau Santanach (Barcelona, Spain/Collegi CreaNova). With the Blue and Gold pushing forward it was a centering pass that found Santanach a couple yards deep in the box. He sent a chip pass back where Kvarnback fired a shot from four yards outside of the box finding the lower right corner of the goal.

New Haven would have one more attempt in the final 10 minutes with the shot off from Darsein Gabriel (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) thwarted by the Penmen's keeper.

Overall for the game, Southern New Hampshire held a 13-5 lead in the shot column with seven of the 13 shots marked on goal and Chargers keeper Archie Watts (Bristol, England/SGS College) registering five saves, two in the first half and a trio in the second half.

Following the game, both Watts and Anthony Denis (Cannes, France/ETP AC Ajaccio) earned a spot on the All-Championship team, while senior Erik Cederberg (Skaene, Sweden/Soederlaettsgymnasiet) secured the league's Elite 24 Award honoring the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the championship site. A business management major, Cederberg sports a 4.0 cumulative grade point average.
