WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Coming off their final road win of the season against the Setters of Pace University, the University of New Haven Volleyball team returned home for their final match of the regular season, for a multi purpose match as the match served as their senior day match, as well as the Chargers having the opportunity to lock in their seeding for the postseason.
Ahead of the match, New Haven honored their trio of seniors, Amber Williams (Lilburn, Ga./Brookwood), Carleigh Vedder (Moorehead, Minn./Moorehead), and Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) for their dedication and impact they had on the program and for the team's success during the season. The Chargers welcomed the Greyhounds of Assumption University in the final match of the season. Assumption led early against New Haven but the Chargers pushed late and Sofia Kamke (Santa Catarina, Brazil/Escola Tecnica do Vale do Itajai) gave the blue and gold the lead with a kill. With the lead late, New Haven weathered the late run by the Greyhounds, but New Haven and Grace Juergens (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) sealed the first set with a kill to win 25-22. In the second set New Haven settled in and found their rhythm. New Haven never trailed in the second set and controlled the tempo as they all took the second set as Kamke led the attack with six kills in the 25-16 and went up 2-0 in the match. In the third with the lead in the match and were in complete control as it was once again Kamke sealed the deal with her 14th kill of the match to seal the third set with a 25-18 third set win and a 3-0 match. Kamke led the attack with 14 kills, Juli De Acharan (Sevilla, Spain/IES Nestor Almendros) had 17 assists and Payton Malinoski (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) had 11 digs.
With the win, New Haven Volleyball clinched the No. 3 Seed in the NE10 Postseason with the win. The Chargers now welcome the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University for the NE10 Quarterfinal match up of the tournament. The Chargers welcome the Penmen on Tuesday, November 19 with tip off on the Charger Sports Network and Flo College at 7:00 PM.
