Collision on the Coast is a LAN invitational only tournament organized by Virginia Wesleyan University. The second LAN event was recently held, and New Haven Varsity Rocket League was once again invited to compete.
The Varsity Rocket League team is comprised of team captain Alesandro "Martzy" Martinez, Matthew "Windsy" Windsor, and Glenn "Auryx" Scott.
This tournament was played throughout two days on Saturday, February 17th and Sunday, February 18th. There were a total of 16 teams competing.
The format of the tournament begins in the group stage, where the 16 teams are split into four groups of four. Games are played on a best of three rule set. UNH was placed in group A during this stage.
University of New Haven Varsity RL made it out of the group stage with four games won and only two games lost, which was the second highest score in their group. This qualified the Chargers for the upper bracket in the playoffs.
During the playoffs, the Chargers unfortunately fell to Lubbock Christian University Esports in their first match. Nevertheless, the New Haven RL team fought their way through the lower bracket.
Their next game had them matched against The College of William & Mary. This match was a clean sweep for the Chargers, resulting in a confident 3-0 win.
Sadly, the tournament run was cut short at the hands of Lebanon Valley College. The Chargers were sent home after losing 1-3 against LVC. This is by no means the end of the Chargers story, the University of New Haven Chargers will return to Collision on the Coast next year!
The Collision on the Coast tournaments are all streamed, so be sure to tune in and support New Haven!
