ALBANY, N.Y. – Another 30 point performance and another career-high for the New Haven rookie guard Jah'Likai King (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) leads the was as the Chargers dropped an 83-70 decision at Saint Rose in the Chargers final regular season road game. With the loss, New Haven falls to 9-18 on the season, 6-15 in the Northeast-10 Conference.
Overall, King finished with a game-best 36 points, his fourth game with 30+ in the scoring column, 19th game overall in double figures and his ninth game with 20+. For the game, the freshman guard shot 12-of-24 from the field with three of his 12 field goals coming from beyond the arc while he was also 9-of-10 at the free throw line. In addition to his scoring, he also finished with a pair of assists and three steals to lead in both of those columns as well.
For the game, King was one of two Chargers in double figures, joined by senior guard Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) who finished with 18 points while also leading the team with eight rebounds. His 16 points came on 5-of-12 shooting with all but one of those five field goals from long range. He was also a perfect 2-of-2 at the line.
Sophomore Kyle Kearson (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) followed that leading duo with eight points while sophomore Josh Hopson and graduate transfer Tyler Saint-Furcy (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence Woodmere Academy) each finished with five to round out the Chargers total scoring. Saint-Furcy followed Thomas in the rebounding column with six, while Hopson pulled down four boards and added a pair of steals.
As a team, New Haven finished the game shooting 43.6 percent from the field, connecting on 24-of-55 field goal attempts, with nine of the 24 field goals from outside the arc. In addition, New Haven finished 13-of-17 at the free throw line, while trailing in the battle of the boards 34-26.
New Haven will close out its 2023-24 regular season schedule at home as they return to West Haven to host the Franklin Pierce Ravens on Tuesday night at the Jeffery P. Hazell Athletic Center. Tip off from Charger Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with all of the action available on NE10Now.tv.
