Johnson's Dozen Leads Chargers in Road Loss at Saint Rose

ALBANY, N.Y. – Graduate post player Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) extended her conference lead with 12th double double of the year as the New Haven women's basketball team dropped its final regular season road contest 64-53 at The College of Saint Rose. With the loss, New Haven falls to 8-17 on the year, 4-17 in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Overall, Deshaies was one of two Chargers to finish in double figures with graduate transfer guard Makaela Johnson (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) leading the Blue and Gold with a dozen, including nine that came from beyond the three point. Johnson finished the game shooting 4-of-9 from the field, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.

Deshaies closed out another double double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, the majority of those numbers coming in the opening half when she finished the first 20 minutes with 10 points and nine rebounds. For the game, the Syracuse, N.Y. native shot 50of-12 from the field.

Junior Charlotte Bassett (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), sophomore Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) and senior Gabrielle Stickle (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) rounded out the leading scorers for New Haven with nine, eight and seven points, respectively. Of the trio, Stickle finished with the hottest hand of the day as she went 3-of-4 from the field, including connecting on her only three point attempt.

As a team, New Haven finished the game shooting 39.6 percent from the field, connecting on 21-of-53 with eight of the 21 field goals coming from outside the three point arc. The Chargers also finished 3-of-4 at the free throw line, while their best shooting of the game came just after the halftime break when they went 7-of-12 for 58.3 percent in the third quarter.
