MANCHESTER, N.H. – Graduate post player Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) added to her team and league-best double doubles with her ninth of the season to lead the New Haven women's basketball team on the road at Southern New Hampshire. The Syracuse, N.Y. native closed out her ninth double double with 17 points and 13 rebounds as she approaches the 1,000 rebound plateau where she would be just the fourth player in program history to secure 1,000 or more rebounds.
Overall, Deshaies was one of a trio of Chargers to finish in double figures as junior Charlotte Bassett (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) followed with a dozen and graduate transfer Makaela Johnson (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) closed out the game with 11 points. In addition, the Chargers to remaining starts added a combined 14 points with sophomore Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) adding eight and senior point guard Gabrielle Stickle (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) closing out the afternoon with a half dozen.
Among all the leading scorers, Deshaies also led New Haven from the field, connecting on 7-of-13 field goal attempts while also going 3-of-4 at the free throw line and dished out ap air of assists. Bassett saw two of her four field goals in the game come from outside the arc while she was 2-of-2 at the free throw line. Additionally, she added four assists and a pair of steals.
Johnson finished the night with five field goals, including one from beyond the arc, while she also dished out a team-high five assists, leading the way among 17 total assists on the 24 baskets made by the Blue and Gold. As a team, New Haven finished the game shooting 34.3 percent, with the 24 field goals coming on 70 attempts, including six from beyond the arc, while the Chargers combined to go 9-of-11 at the free throw line.
Deshaies 13 rebounds led all players in the game as she was the only to finish in double figures, while as a team her 13 boards were part of 35 total, one shy of the 36 pulled down by the Penmen. Following Deshaies in the rebounding battle was Bassett with five and Johnson and Bianca Pendelton who each finished with four.
New Haven will remain on the road for one more game before heading back to West Haven, with the next stop coming in Long Island as the Chargers travel to Garden City, N.Y. to take on the Adelphi Panthers on Wednesday, February 7.
