GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Another monster performance from the reigning Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week Jah'Likai King (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) as he led the New Haven men's basketball team with a 29-point performance in the Blue and Gold's road game at Adelphi on Wednesday night.
For the game, King shot 12-of-27 from the field with five of his 12 field goals coming from outside of the three-point arc. IN addition, he also pulled down four rebounds and dished out four assists. The 29 points from King is his 15th game in double figures and his sixth with 25+ in the scoring column.
Overall, King was one of three Chargers in double figures with senior Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) continuing to climb the all-time scoring list with 15 points and redshirt freshman Ethan Simmon (Edison, N.J./St. Joseph Metuchen) who chipped in a dozen. The pair each shot 50% for the game with Thomas shooting 7-of-14 and Simmon going 5-of-10 with two of his buckets from outside the arc.
As a team, New Haven finished the game shooting 43.9 percent from the field connecting on 29-of-66 field goal attempts. Among the 29 total field goals were eight from beyond the arc while the Chargers were also 3-of-6 at the free throw line. As a team, the Chargers also trailed in the battle of the boards with Adelphi taking a 36-32 advantage. Leading New Haven on the night was Thomas who pulled down six boards.
In addition to his 12 points, Simmon blocked three shots to lead New Haven who as a team racked up six stuffed shots. In addition to the four assists from King, graduate transfer Tyler Saint-Furcy (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence Woodmere Academy) led New Haven with five helpers.
After spending two straight games on the road, the Chargers will make their first appearance at home in the month of February on Saturday, February 10 when they welcome the Saint Michael's Purple Knights to West Haven.
