Antler's Five Goals Leads Chargers in Wire-to-Wire Win Over SNHU

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The New Haven women's lacrosse team scored early and took a 6-0 lead they would never relinquish as they went wire-to-wire for a 19-17 win over the visiting Southern New Hampshire Penmen in the Northeast-10 opener for both teams. With the win, New Haven improves to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in the NE10.

The scoring started right out of the gates for the Chargers with Summer Castiglione (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) and Katie Schenk (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) each scoring within the first 90 seconds of action. Those two goals were part of six in the first seven minutes before surrendering a tally from the Penmen. Castiglione's early goal came on a free position attempt and was part of two points for the game as she added an assist later in the first period.

Schenk's early goal came right off the draw, just 11 seconds after Castiglione put the first goal on the board. It was also her first of back-to-back scores and four total for the game which she added to a pair of assists for six total points. Her six points tied Cameryn Antler (Hebron, Conn./Mercy) who led New Haven with five goals, adding one assist to her stat line. Antler's first two goals also came in that early 6-0 stretch as she went back-to-back following Schenk.

Joining Antler and Schenk in leading the scoring efforts was junior Gianna Caprioli (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt) who matched Schenk's four goal effort. The remaining six New Haven goals came from five different players with the only other Charger to finish with multiple goals being Alyssa Wahl (British Columbia, Canada/Ecole Riverside Secondary) who came off the bench to finish with a pair.

Schenk's two assists were part of seven total for the Chargers with Caitlin Seleny (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton) matching Schenk with two assists, which she added to one goal for three points total.

New Haven will play its next two games on a neutral field as they head to Sparks, Md. to play IUP and Seton Hill at Tierney Field on the USA Lacrosse campus. First up in those two games will be a Friday afternoon match-up against the Crimson Hawks with opening draw set for 1:00 p.m.
