Schenk’s Five Goals Leads Chargers to Win Over IUP

SPARKS, Md. – The New Haven women's lacrosse team opened up its Spring Break trip in Maryland with a 17-6 win over the Indiana (Pa.) Crimson Hawks at Tierney Field. The Chargers will conclude their weekend at the US Lacrosse facility on Sunday afternoon when they take on Seton Hill with opening draw set for 12:00 p.m.

Leading the way for the Blue and Gold was graduate transfer midfielder Katie Schenk (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) who opened up the scoring in the first quarter and for the afternoon finished with six points on the afternoon which came on five goals and an assist. The Southbury, Conn. native split her goals across all four quarters, with two coming in the first 15 minutes and one each in the final three periods.

Overall, she was one of five Chargers to finish with multiple goals, followed by Cameryn Antler (Hebron, Conn./Mercy) and Caitlin Seleny (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton) who each chipped in a hat trick and added an assist for four points apiece.

Rounding out the leading scorers was Gianna Caprioli (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt) and Kyra Sparks (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) who each added a pair of goals while Helena Koch (Groton, Mass./Groton-Dunstable Regional) and Alyssa Wahl (British Columbia, Canada/Ecole Riverside Secondary) completed the Chargers scoring on the afternoon. Four of the Chargers goals came on free position attempts while four came on player-up opportunities, two of them from Schenck.

Between the pipes, the Chargers relied on the trust Gabby Buscemi (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) who finished the full-game with 12 saves as she has now put up double figure stops in each of the four games this season.
