On March 8th and 9th, the University of New Haven Varsity Halo team competed in the Spartan Invitational LAN hosted by the University of Southern Mississippi.
Our team is made up of: Captain Connor "CNRL" Lincavicks, Jarid "Kagenokame" DePaulo, Nicholas "Zyn" Perez, David "FPSKarito" Ramirez and their coach, David "Speedrush64" Pendleton.
The Chargers had to first compete in the online pools before qualifying for the LAN Invitational. In this stage of the tournament, they faced USF, York, Ohio State and NSMU, scoring 3-0 victories against all of them!
This impressive performance in the online pools qualified them for the invitational and had them placed in the second seed on the winners side of the bracket.
Day 1 of the Spartan Invitational had UNH facing off against New Mexico State University for round 2 on the winners side. Keeping the trend of their scores so far, the Chargers won once again with another 3-0 victory.
Day 2 had the Chargers advancing onto round 3 against University of Southern Mississippi, who were the first to take a match from the Chargers. Unshaken, UNH still went on to win that game with a confident 3-1 win.
During the winners final, Utah State University proved to be more than formidable and gave the Chargers some trouble. After losing 2 games and being on match point for USU, the Chargers did the impossible and came back with a reverse sweep, winning that game 3-2.
The Chargers sent Utah State to the Loser's Bracket, and USU battled their way back to the Grand Finals.
In the Grand Finals, New Haven put up a valiant effort but ended up falling to Utah State.Â
After an incredibly well-played tournament run, the Chargers made it all the way to 2nd place.
The Halo team would like to congratulate USU on winning the Grand Finals after a long and hard fought battle, along with a big thanks to USM for hosting this tournament.
