UNH Smash Is Headed For Brooklyn!

Chargers SSBU Ready to Take on BrookLAN

On March 20th, 2024, the UNH Super Smash Bros team had the chance to duke it out against Molloy University for a chance to qualify for "BrookLAN", an invitational tournament located in Brooklyn.

The members that competed in this match were: Team Captain Noah "SnowCone" Iott playing as Snake, Brendan "Breb" Straut using Mii Brawler and Alex "Deception" Fishler who played as Ike.

Alex "jA" Calla who plays Link, Sean "SeanG" Green who plays Lucina, and Logan "Fart" Starr who uses Ganondorf are also on the team.

This match was played in the "Crew Battle" format, which pits players from both teams in a series of one-on-one battles. When one player loses all their lives or "stocks", another player from their team replaces them until all players on one team have been eliminated.

With Molloy's intimidating track record, some initial concerns arose. "We knew that their team was going to be seeded higher than us, and looking through the semester, they had some pretty dominating wins," Captain Noah Iott () remarked. "We knew this was going to prove to be a challenge." Despite facing an intimidating foe, Iott's confidence in his team was correctly placed as the Chargers proved they were not a force to be trifled with.

In both games UNH just barely came out on top with only 1-2 stocks remaining on their side by the end of the match. Despite this, Straut and Iott managed to come out of their matches stock-positive, taking down 4-5 of Molloy's lives each.

However, the fate of the Chargers was held in the palms of Fishler, who finished the job in an intense last-stock showdown, thus securing their trip to BrookLAN.

Everyone was fighting tooth and nail for their chance to compete in Brooklyn, making the match very close. Molloy lived up to their formidable record, but the Chargers held their ground and delivered a 2-0 victory.

"Week after week competing in ECC I realized the potential that our team had, and words can't describe how proud I am to see us get to where we are today," Iott recounted after the Chargers win.

Let's share the pride Iott has for his team and continue to cheer on the Smash team as they prepare to face even bigger challenges in Brooklyn!
