BLOOMFIELD, Conn. – Led by a top-10 finish from sophomore Aissa El Khadri (Kingdom of Morocco/Sotogrande International School), the New Haven men's golf team closed out the Hartford Hawk Spring Invitational in as the runner-up among seven teams over the two-day event at Tumble Brook Country Club.
El Khadri matched his opening round score of 77 in round two, finishing the 36-hole event +10 with a 144 which placed him in a two-way tie for ninth place. Following him in leading the Chargers was rookie Hermann Gavilan (/) who matched El Khadri's first round 77, but closed out the two-day event three strokes behind with a 147 to finish in a three-way tie for 13th.
The freshmen duo of Ben Rich (/) and Aaron Browning (/) followed in the standings as the pair matched each other with a 149 to finish in a two-way tie for 17th place. Amond the pair, Rich saw the biggest improvement as he moved up four spots in the second round, shaving one stroke off his opening round. Freshman Frank Ferru, Jr. (Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock North) rounded out the Chargers five finishing in 29th place overall after shaving five strokes off his opening round to close out the event+23.
The Chargers will get right back on the course top begin the new week as they head to the Granite State and Concord, N.H. for the two-day Southern New Hampshire Penmen Invitational. The 36-hole event will take place at beaver Meadow Golf Course.
