Wells Four Hits Highlights Baseball's 9-5 Win over Post in NCAA Regionals

UNIONDALE, N.Y. – The New Haven baseball team plated three runs in the first inning and never trailed as they went on to take a 9-5 decision over the Post Eagles in an elimination game of the NCAA Division II East Region Championship at the Mitchel Athletic Complex. With the win, New Haven advances to Saturday and will square off with the losing team of today's second game featuring the host Molloy Lions and Goldey Beacom.

Highlighting the early afternoon game for the Blue and Gold was graduate designated hitter Tyler Wells (Danville, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) who finished an impressive 4-of-5 at the plate with a pair of RBI and two runs scored. Wells four hits were part of 11 total for the Chargers with one other played ending the day with multiple hits, graduate second baseman Noah Budzik (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell) who finished 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored.

The remaining five hits were spread across five different players with three of those hits driving in runs as left fielder Cole Maucere (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) plated a pair on a double while corner infielders Matt McIntire (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) and Joseph Frazzetta (Howard Beach, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) each drove in one run.

On the mound, starting lefty hander Liam Carroll (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) earned the victory, his sixth of the season as he threw five innings and allowed just a single unearned run on four hits and a pair of walks. He also struck out a half dozen. Randy Ramnarace (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) and Matthew Minio (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) each saw two innings of work out of the pen and each surrendered two earned runs while the pair also combined to strike out three.
