GARDEN CITY. N.Y. – The New Haven women's lacrosse team scored first and led by as much as two mid-way through the second half but the second seeded Adelphi Panthers pulled ahead in the second half and took a 9-7 victory in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. With the loss, New Haven stands at 12-6 overall on the season and will now await a potential at-large bid in the NCAA East Region Championship which will be announced this upcoming weekend.
A pair of Chargers accounted for more than half of the seven New Haven goals with graduate attack Cameryn Antler (Hebron, Conn./Mercy) and sophomore midfielder Summer Castiglione (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) each netting a pair. Antler saw both of her goals come in the opening half, including the opening score of the game just over seven minutes into the action. She would score again midway through the second half to put the Chargers ahead 5-3 before Adelphi closed out the half with two goals to take a 5-5 draw into the halftime intermission.
The remaining three goals for New Haven came from junior midfielder Gianna Caprioli (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt), senior midfielder Ivanna Hernandez (Bay Shore, N.Y./Brentwood) and sophomore attack Caitlin Seleny (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton). Hernandez also added the lone assist of the day for New Have to finish tied with Antler and Castiglione with a team-best two points.
As a team, New Haven took 18 total shots on the day while also holding a 12-8 advantage in the draw and registering 10 caused turnovers. Transfer Katie Schenck led the Chargers with six draw controls while senior Cypress Levitt (Calais, Vt./Montpelier) followed with four. In the turnover column it was junior Justine Doyle (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) who led the way with three caused turnovers.
In the cage, New Haven relied on senior Gabby Buscemi (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) who played the full 60 minutes, finishing the day with nine saves.
