Simpson Nets First Career Goals as New Haven Bests Felician 3-0

RUTHERFORD, New Jersey. – For their third straight match, the University of New Haven Women's Soccer team traveled to New Jersey this time to take on the Golden Falcons of Felician University in their third straight non-conference match looking to pick up their first win of the season.

The Chargers jumped out on the front foot early driving down the field and earning a corner just three minutes into the match. Felician had a shot on the other end against Caitlin Daley (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) who made the stop to keep it level. The Chargers countered quickly and kept Felician in their own half. 17 minutes in, it was the freshman, Grace Simpson (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) who broke through for the Chargers scoring her first goal for the blue and gold as New Haven took the early lead. That was just the beginning as two minutes later, the Chargers were back on the attack and earned a corner that would go on a lead to Vickie Fleming (Burlington, Conn./Lewis Mills) finding Lola Wood (Auckland, New Zealand/Diocesan School) with an angle in front of her and putting the ball in the back of the net to double the Chargers lead to 2-0. After a shot by the Golden Falcons and a pair of subs, New Haven quickly went the other direction on the counter-attack and once again Fleming found the open Charger, Simpson who had her chance to add her second goal and did just that beating the keeper and tallying her second goal of her career to put the Chargers up 3-0. The attack continued as Simpson was denied of her hat-trick as the keeper made a save on her shot just minutes after the second goal. In total, the offense had nine shots in the first half six being on goal. Daley had a pair of saves to keep the clean sheet headed to the half. The offense continued their pressure in the second half rattling off another nine shots with five being on goal but were denied a fourth goal. Daley was called upon once in the second half saving the lone shot on goal from the Golden Falcons as the Chargers led by their freshman forward, Grace Simpson (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon), would go on to win 3-0. Simpson with her pair of goals on five shots, four being on goal led the way as Wood added her goal and Fleming a pair of assists. Daley posted the clean sheet gathering three saves in the match in the big win for the Chargers.
