WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Under ideal conditions on Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium, the University of New Haven women's rugby team opened up its third season of 15's hosting the Bowdoin College Polar Bears, with the visitors taking the 69-21 decision over the Chargers.

The Blue and Gold completed three scores in the game, one in the first half and two early on in the second half. Leading New Haven on the day was senior captain Sydney Dela Cruz (Campbell, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) who finished a perfect 3-for-3 in conversion attempts, while all three of the New Haven tries came from different players.

The opening try for the Chargers came from junior Lala Guimaires in the 29th minute with Dela Cruz making the conversion to put the score at 26-7. New Haven came out of the break to score twice in the first 20 minutes of action, including the opening try of the half which came courtesy of Aggie Mahan (Perryville, Md./Perryville) scampering over the line in the 44th minute.

Sereana Vulaono (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) would complete New Haven's scoring on the day when she answered a Bowdoin try with one of her own in the 59th minute. Dela Cruz would make the conversion on both of the second half tries. Bowdoin would go on to score five more tries to put the game at its final margin on 69-21.

New Haven will head on the road for their next game, taking on Davenport in a neutral site match on Saturday, September 21. Opening kickoff is slated for 10:00 a.m. on the home field of Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
