WEST HAVEN, Conn. –
Coming off their big win on senior day against their cross-town rivals, the University of New Haven Women's soccer team returned to the pitch for a non-conference match-up against the Cougars of Caldwell University as New Haven looks for their third straight win.

Sticking with a similar starting eleven from their Southern Connecticut State win, head coach Laura Duncan kept her team energy up and controlled possession through the middle third of the field as both teams traded throw-ins throughout the first half both teams headed into the break locked in a stalemate 0-0. The second half played similarly to the first half as both teams continued their stalemate. Entering the last five minutes of the match, both teams looked like they were headed for a draw but in the 86th minute, a yellow card was shown to a Caldwell defender setting up a New Haven free kick outside of the box. Angelina Schilling (Sewell, N.J./Deptford Township) took the free kick and beat the defense and Layla Coppola (Woodbury, Conn./Nonnewaug) found the end of the free kick beating the keeper and putting New Haven up 1-0. New Haven defended strong and denied Caldwell of any equalizers as New Haven won their third straight match for the first time since 2017. Caitlin Daley (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) posted her third straight clean sheet as well with six saves on 13 shots from Caldwell.

The Chargers continue their home stand as they open up NE10 Conference play as they welcome the Greyhounds of Assumption University on Friday night with kick-off at 7:00 pm from Kathy Zolad Stadium on Friday, September 20. All updates, schedules, and post-match recaps for the team will be available at NewHavenChargers.com.
