WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Coming off their big win against the Cougars of Caldwell University, the University of New Haven Women's soccer team looked to make it four straight wins for the first time since 2016 as they opened up Northeast 10 conference play as they hosted the Greyhounds of Assumption University under the lights at Kathy Zolad Stadium.
New Haven struck fast against Assumption as off the opening kick, they found Janayah Body (West Hartford, Conn./Lawrence Academy) making a run up the right wing into open space. Body took on her defender in the channel and found room to get a cross-off that deflected off the Assumption defender finding the back of the net and putting New Haven up 1-0 in the first minute of the game. New Haven with the lead defended well turning away Assumption from the 18-yard box as Caitlin Daley (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) made four saves in the first half while Assumption totaled 12 shots against the defense. Coming out of the break, New Haven held their lead and continued to defend and keep Assumption out of rhythm but in the final minutes Assumption found their chance after a shot hit the crossbar and bounced back into play, a Greyhound put a head on the ball and found the back of the net tying the game at 1-1. Daley in the second half conceded one goal facing 12 shots and made five saves for the blue and gold as they drew the match by a final of 1-1.
The Chargers now return to the road as they travel to Long Island to take on the Panthers of Adelphi University on Tuesday, September 24 with kick-off scheduled for 4:00 pm from Motamed Field in Garden City, New York..
