FULL NORTHEAST-10 RELEASE
MANSFIELD, Mass. – After leading her team to a 3-0 week with a trio of Northeast-10 Conference wins, senior Risako Umekuni (Saitama, Japan/Shumei Eiko) secured the first honors of the year for the New Haven women's tennis team as she too home NE10 Player of the Week accolades as announced by the league.
The Saitama, Japan native finished the week going 5-0 with a pair of doubles victories and singles wins in all three matches. She opened up the week taking two victories from Adelphi, partnered with freshman Victoria Togores (Canary Islands, Spain/Colegio Hispano Ingles) at No. 2 doubles and then recovering from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Roisin Boyd in three sets for a 4-3 win in singles.
Umekuni followed that up with a pair of wins against Saint Anselm, again at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles before moving up a spot and earning her first No. 2 singles victory of the season against Saint Michael's Annabelle Aldrete.
Umekuni and the Chargers will continue conference action on Tuesday afternoon when the host the Assumption Greyhounds with first serve set for 3:00 p.m.
