Chargers Rout Wolves, Stay Perfect at Home

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – New Haven Football routed Western Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon, winning 69-0. AJ Duffy (St. Augustine, Fla./Rancho Verde) passed for 354 yards and six overall touchdowns. Duffy threw four touchdowns and ran for two more in the win.

New Haven scored 14 points in the first quarter, 28 in the second, 24 in the third, and three in the fourth during the offensive explosion.

All in all, New Haven racked up 736 yards of total offense, never punted, and held the ball for 35:21. The Blue & Gold entered the red zone eight times and came away with six scores on their trips.

Liam Quigley (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Govenor Livingston) totaled 15 points by himself, making all 11 kicks (nine PATs and two field goals).

On the defensive side of the ball, Nikkem Reynolds (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) and Brodie Williams (West Memphis, Ark./Academies of Jonesboro High School) each had interceptions, with Williams returning his for a touchdown. New Haven picked up four sacks as Irv Briggs (Queens Village, N.Y./Holy Trinity), Chris Chasia (Montclair, N.J./DePaul Catholic), Pete Melle (Dallas, Tx./Dallas Jesuit College Prep), and Luke Kelley (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) all found ways to bring down the quarterback.

Jalen Smith (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) led all rushers with 175 yards on the ground, including a 71-yard touchdown scamper. Brian Thomas (Apopka, Fla./Orlando Christian Prep) had 110 yards of his own. Duffy scored twice on three carries.

Isaac Glaudin hauled in four passes for 106 yards and a score. Smith found the end zone through the air. Mark Didio Jr. (West Port, Conn.) caught a pair of passes for 52 yards and a touchdown. Thomas and Ty Cannistraro (Chelmsford, Mass./Central Catholic) each caught one pass for a touchdown.

New Haven is back on the gridiron on Saturday, Oct. 25, at LIU. Opening kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m.
