Chargers Fall In Tie-Breaker Battle Against Mercyhurst

ERIE, Penn. – New Haven Volleyball headed to Pennsylvania on Friday night to face the Mercyhurst Lakers in the first match of the weekend double header. The Chargers fell short in the tie-breaker match, 3-2.
 
The Chargers won the first set of the night, 25-19. The second set was a tough battle, but the Lakers came out on top 28-26. The Lakers also took the third set 25-20. New Haven came back in the fourth set and won 25-21. The Chargers kept fighting, but Mercyhurst won the fifth set 15-11. There were outstanding performances from Lauren MacKellar (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Northville), who had 16 kills and nine digs, Kassadi Avent (Woolwich, NJ), who had 14 kills and three service aces, and Josie Foster (Kurwongbah, Australia), who had nine kills and six blocks. Setter Juli De Acharan (Sevilla, Spain/IES Nestor Almendros) contributed 24 assists, 19 digs, and two service aces. Caroline Johnston (Noelnsville, TN) also put up 14 assists and four blocks.
 
The Chargers are looking to take home a win in the second match of the double header against Mercyhurst on Saturday, Oct. 18th, at 1:00 p.m.
