On Tuesday, October 28th, UNH's junior varsity League of Legends team proved themselves stronger as they took on Manchester University, defeating them in 2:0 fashion.
The junior varsity roster is comprised of Alek "Saturn" Pereborow who plays jungle, Carly "CarlysFerrari" Salzano as the teams ADC, Mert "kawaiikingmert" Bozan playing top lane, Patrick "Pattato" McHugh who covers mid, and Lauren "HobneliusPrime" Lynch covering support.
Round one saw a tougher start for the team as they got slightly overwhelmed in the early game, down 1/4. It took some time, but around the twenty minute mark, UNH regrouped themselves and went back on attack. With a perfect use of an ult, CarlysFerrari was able to get a killing spree, evening the score at 7/7. Things remained even for a few minutes, both teams neck and neck as they traded kills, but the tide turned and New Haven started to take the lead, going 16/11 at around thirty minutes into the game, and then 20/11 less than two minutes later. Sieging in on the enemy Nexus, UNH went all out in a final push to take the first round win, ending 25/12. It was an especially strong showing for HobneliusPrime as they went 18 assists on the round.
With the first win bagged, the players seemed confident going into the next. The second round started in favor of New Haven, allowing the squad to go 6/1 early game. Things continued with a steady lead, 14/1 in favor of UNH at around twenty minutes, and you could tell the players were having fun. Manchester University made a good play for a comeback, but were shut down by our team's strength. Things got a bit more difficult as the team made a strike for the nexus but saw a bit of trouble, forced to pull back and regroup, taking a bit more time to build up their ultimates before taking another go. The full team bared down on the enemy team and their nexus, and unable to be stopped, they took a clean 2-0 match victory on the round, ending 38/22. It was a strong showing all around for UNH, with every member of the squad doing their part and walking out with a series of impressive KDAs to show for their dominant performance.
Kawaiikingmert especially was a star player throughout the match for UNH, playing Yone and Quinn. His stats were 12.5 kills / 6 deaths / 11 assists, with an average 31.5k damage to enemies over the two rounds. The consistent performance was a reliable contribution to the team that allowed them to keep a steady hand on the lead both times.
