Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Fitzpatrick's 18 Second-Half Points Guides New Haven to First-Ever Division I Win

LOWELL, Mass. – New Haven Men's Basketball visited the UMass Lowell Riverhawks on Monday night. The Blue & Gold picked up a 73-67 win, earning their first as a Division I program.

A first half that was tightly contested ended with UMass Lowell ahead 37-30. Najimi George (Bridgeport, Conn./Kolbe Cathedral) paced the Chargers in the opening 20 with nine points, going three of six from the field. George would finish with 17.

The night belonged to Jabri Fitzpatrick (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick). After five points in the first half, the junior guard exploded for 18 in the second half, including some huge scores late in the game to keep it out of reach for UMass Lowell.

New Haven's 43-point second half was powered by a 59.3% (16-27) clip from the field.

Andre Pasha (Syracuse, N.Y./Syracuse Academy of Science) finished with 10 points and was tied for a game-high with eight rebounds. Vere Anthony's (Queens, N.Y./St. Francis Preparatory School) three assists led New Haven.

Defensively, New Haven held the Riverhawks to just 35.1% (20-57) from the field and 24% (6-25) from beyond the arc. Stefano Faloppa (Portogruaro, Italy/Holy Cross Prep) swatted a pair of shots away while George and Pasha each recorded a block of their own. Pasha also had three steals, while Kheni Briggs (Kennapolis, N.C./The Burlington School) finished with a pair. Fitzpatrick, George, and Anthony all had one in the contest.

New Haven is next in action on Saturday, Nov. 15, at home against Delaware State. Opening tipoff will come at 1:00 p.m.
