FAIRFIELD, Conn. – New Haven Women's Basketball made the quick trip to Fairfield on Tuesday morning for its final game before the Thanksgiving break. The Stags defended home court, taking a 79-60 win over New Haven.
New Haven kept pace with the Stags' high-powered offense early. Seven early points from
Addisen Sulikowski (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy) had New Haven and Fairfield exchanging punches. Ultimately, the Stags began to pull away and a close opening quarter ballooned to a 41-24 advantage for Fairfield at the half.
Another run from New Haven made it a six-point game midway through the final quarter, but timely shooting from Fairfield combined with turnovers from the Blue & Gold extended the Stags' lead to double digits again.
Sulikowski finished with 18 points, including a perfect four for four from behind the arc. Anyia McDonald-Perry finished with a double double on 12 points and 10 rebounds. It's her second double double of the season. Overall, New Haven shot an impressive 40% (6-15) from deep, a season-high.
"Fairfield is the best team we are going to face. They have outstanding chemistry and shoot as well as any team I have coached against. We played well in the second half and got it down to six. I think fatigue wore in at the end. They are a very physical team. We outscored them in the third, 18-13 and had four in double figures. On the game, we out-rebounded them 37-19. A lot we can build on," said Head Coach
Debbie Buff.
New Haven is back on the floor on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Siena University. Tipoff is slated to arrive at 6:00 p.m.
