WEST HAVEN, Conn. – On a banner day for New Haven Athletics, New Haven Men's Basketball hosted Penn State at The Hazell Center. The game finished in a one-sided affair after a pregame ceremony honoring the contributions of Jeff Hazell, one of the many visionaries who have contributed to the University during its time of transition to NCAA Division I.
A lights-out shooting performance from Penn State was key to its victory. Penn State shot 52.5% (32-61) for the game and hit 44% (11-25) of its attempts from distance. After a measly 25% (3-12) from three-point range in the first half, Penn State made eight of its next thirteen tries in the second half to hit at a 61.5% clip.
The game began with the teams going back and forth, trading buckets at each end of the floor. As the score grew to a 33-20 Penn State lead, New Haven found itself on the wrong end of a 9-0 run. From there, the Penn State lead kept growing.
Jabri Fitzpatrick (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) led the Chargers with 14 points.
Najimi George (Bridgeport, Conn./Kolbe Cathedral) was the team's primary set up option, finishing with three assists.
Stefano Faloppa's (Portogruaro, Italy/Holy Cross Prep) four rebounds paced the team on the boards.
Penn State also out-rebounded New Haven 36-24. Penn State also only turned the ball over six times.
New Haven is back on the floor next on Monday, Nov. 10, as it visits UMass Lowell. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
