Viera, Fla.- Early offense in the first inning doesn't prove to be enough for the game as University of New Haven softball team drops game two in Florida to Goldey-Beacom 9-3. Bringing their overall record to 0-4.
Â
The Chargers came out swinging in the first inning, with
Aaliyah Amidon (Ledyard, Conn./Ledyard) delivering a massive three-run home run to center field. The blast scored
Bella Chenet (Plantation, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy) and
Lucia Ceccarelli (Griswold, Conn./Griswold), giving New Haven an early 3-0 lead. Amidon's homer was her first of the season and provided a much-needed offensive spark.
Â
New Haven's pitching faced challenges throughout the game. Starter
Viana McKinley (North Chesterfield, Va./Monacan) took the loss after allowing eight hits and five earned runs in just 2.1 innings.
Katie Rhodes (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) provided solid relief, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing only one run while striking out three.
Â
The Chargers will look to regroup quickly as they continue their Florida trip with games against Thomas and Aquinas College.
