Chargers Drop Game Two in Florida

Viera, Fla.- Early offense in the first inning doesn't prove to be enough for the game as University of New Haven softball team drops game two in Florida to Goldey-Beacom 9-3. Bringing their overall record to 0-4.

The Chargers came out swinging in the first inning, with Aaliyah Amidon (Ledyard, Conn./Ledyard) delivering a massive three-run home run to center field. The blast scored Bella Chenet (Plantation, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy) and Lucia Ceccarelli (Griswold, Conn./Griswold), giving New Haven an early 3-0 lead. Amidon's homer was her first of the season and provided a much-needed offensive spark.

New Haven's pitching faced challenges throughout the game. Starter Viana McKinley (North Chesterfield, Va./Monacan) took the loss after allowing eight hits and five earned runs in just 2.1 innings. Katie Rhodes (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) provided solid relief, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing only one run while striking out three.

The Chargers will look to regroup quickly as they continue their Florida trip with games against Thomas and Aquinas College.
