Millerville, Pa.- The University of New Haven women's lacrosse team secured a convincing 17-12 victory over Millersville University on Wednesday afternoon at Millersville. The Chargers improved their record to 3-2 on the season with the non-conference win.
New Haven's offense was firing on all cylinders, led by standout performances from
Gianna Caprioli (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt) and
Katie Schenk (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug), who each netted five goals. The Chargers jumped out to a commanding 6-0 lead in the first quarter, setting the tone for the rest of the game.
Caprioli continued her impressive start to the season, bringing her goal total to 15 through five games. Schenk was equally dominant, increasing her season tally to 19 goals.
Lindsey Belmonte (Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport) also contributed significantly with a hat trick.
The Chargers' defense held strong against Millersville's attempts to mount a comeback, with goalkeeper
Madeline Sage (Manchester, N.H./Goffstown High School) making several crucial saves throughout the contest. New Haven's ability to control possession was evident in their 21-12 advantage in draw controls.
After three road games the Chargers return home as they welcome Saint Michael's on Saturday March 15 at 1:00 pm.
