Chargers Pick Up First Win in Conference Play

West Haven, Conn.- New Haven picks up first win in conference play against a visiting Saint Michael's College 12-2. University of New Haven women's lacrosse team improves to 4-2 in regular season and 1-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Scoring came on all cylinders today freshman Sophia Minnion (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) led the charge with 4 goals. Minnion in her young career in the Blue and Gold had her career high. Katie Schenk (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) and Gianna Caprioli (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt) added two themselves. Emma Cretella (Cheshire, Conn./St. Paul Catholic), Sam Maucere (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon), Summer Castiglione (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial), and Lindsey Belmonte (Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport) added one goal apiece.

The Chargers wasted no time establishing their dominance, jumping out to a 3-1 lead in the first quarter. They then exploded for five unanswered goals in the second quarter, effectively putting the game out of reach.  New Haven's defense was equally impressive, holding Saint Michael's to just two goals for the entire game.

Up next for the Chargers is a quick turnaround as they play their final nonconference game of the season and welcome Dominican University for a 6:30 opening draw.
