MANCHESTER, NH – The University of New Haven Chargers traveled north to New Hampshire to visit the St. Anselm Hawks in conference doubleheader action on Monday. The Blue and Gold dropped both games to the Hawks.
GAME ONE:
The Hawks shutout the Chargers in game one, 5-0. St. Anselm got a run in the second, a run in the fifth, and three in the sixth to take game one from the Chargers.
Bella Chenet (Plantation, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy),
Olivia Roberto (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun),
Brianna Trueman (Trout Run, Pa./Montoursville Area),
Allison Murai (Sammamish, WA/Skyline High School),
Kylie Thorpe (Taunton, Mass./Taunton), and
Lucia Ceccarelli (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) each recorded a hit in the game resulting in UNH's six total knocks.
Breanna Kinney (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) pitched the whole game for the Chargers. In the loss, she went six innings, allowed eight hits, five runs (all earned), walked three and struck out two. She now drops to 3-9 on the season.
GAME TWO:
UNH got on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but that was the only offense it could muster in game two, a 9-1 loss to the Hawks.
A double steal of second base and home plate pulled off by Trueman and Chenet put the Chargers ahead 1-0.
The 1-0 Charger lead would hold until the third inning when the Hawks scored a pair, making it 2-1 after three.
St. Anselm also scored one in the fifth inning, making it 3-1, before getting six in its final plate appearance.
Katie Rhodes (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) was hit with the loss for UNH in game two. She went four strong innings, only allowing two runs (both earned) and six hits. In relief, the Blue and Gold turned to
Skylar Griffin (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur), who got the final five outs. Griffin allowed seven earned runs on eight hits and walked a batter.
