Setters Sweep Chargers in Friday's Doubleheader

PLEASANTVILLE, NY – The University of New Haven Chargers were swept in Friday's doubleheader on the road against the Pace Setters.

GAME ONE:
The Chargers offense was shut down by Gisselle Garcia, who tossed seven no-hit innings in the Setters 5-0 win.

The Setters struck three times in the first inning and twice more in the sixth inning resulting in the 5-0 final.

Allison Murai (Sammamish, WA/Skyline High School) worked a walk in the top of the sixth inning, the Chargers only baserunner of the day. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lucia Ceccarelli (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) but was stranded there after a pop out ended the inning.

Breanna Kinney (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) was hit with the loss after lasting four innings. She surrendered three runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out one. Katie Rhodes (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) came in in relief and also allowed a pair of earned runs.

Garcia struck out ten in her seven innings.

GAME TWO:
Neither team got on the board until Pace pushed a run across in the bottom of the fourth off of Skylar Griffin (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur).

The Setters would find their groove in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six times to go up 7-0.

New Haven got hits from Stephanie Smith (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Catholic), Olivia Roberto (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun), Marzia Johnson (Branford, Conn./Branford), and Murai in game two.
