Chargers Erupt for 18 Goals in Senior Day Win

WEST HAVEN, CT – The University of New Haven Chargers hosted the Franklin Pierce University Ravens on senior day. The Chargers secured an 18-7 win in dominating fashion over the Ravens.

New Haven scored the first five goals in this one, courtesy of Karly King (Branford, Conn./Branford) and a pair each from Gianna Caprioli (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt) and Katie Schenk (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug). Caprioli also registered her 100th career goal in the win.

After the Ravens made it 5-1, the Chargers struck for four more tallies, coming from Lindsey Belmote, Lucy Schafer, Schenk (giving her the hat trick for the second game in a row), and Summer Castiglione (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial), while the Chargers were shorthanded.

By halftime, the score was 12-3 in favor of the Chargers, after Sophia Devaney (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial), Morgan Uzdanovich (Nashua, N.H./Nashua), and Schenk each found the back of the net.

The third quarter continued the trend of New Haven domination. Caprioli completed the hat trick just 21 seconds into the second half, making it a 10-goal lead. Helena Dunwoody (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich), who registered her 100th career draw control in the win, Caitlin Seleny (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton), and Belmonte each scored later in the quarter, making it 16-5 by the end of the third.

Devaney and Kaleigh Schaeffler (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) each scored late in the final quarter to bring the final score to 18-7.

Maddie Sage earned the win, stopping four of seven shots she faced in the first 37:13. Caroline D'Angelo (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) allowed one goal on two shots after taking over. Emily Clutter (Crofton, Md./Crofton) played the final 11:26 and surrendered three goals.
