Strong Pitching Undone by Purple Knights in Friday Doubleheader

WEST HAVEN, CT – The University of New Haven Chargers hosted the St. Michael's Purple Knights on Friday afternoon for a conference doubleheader. The Purple Knights swept the Chargers, winning both games.

GAME ONE:
The Ravens put up three runs in the first inning against Breanna Kinney (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka). Only one was earned thanks to three errors in the field.

St. Mike's got a pair in the third inning off of RBI singles, making it 5-0.

Kinney lasted five innings, surrendering eight hits and five runs while striking out four.

GAME TWO:
St. Mike's put up another pair in the first inning, jumping out to an early 2-0 against UNH pitcher Skylar Griffin (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur).

Griffin turned in an excellent outing, going 6.2 innings, allowing five runs (all earned), and walking a pair.

The Chargers tied the game in the bottom of the fourth by way of a two-run single from Rachel Krogman (Old Bethpage, N.Y./Plainview-Old Bethpage). Peyton Sullivan (Savona, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) and Sophia Piccirilli (Dover, N.H./Winnacunnet) both scored on Krogman's base knock.

The Purple Knights got two runs in the top of the seventh and another insurance run later in the inning, resulting in the 5-2 win.
