Long Branch, N.J. – New Haven Men's Soccer kicked off the school's Division I Era with a 2-1 win over Monmouth University on Thursday night on the road.
Lukian Lawro (Albertson, N.Y./Mineola) scored the program's first goal of the season and
Ryan Kipness (Stamford, Conn./Westhill) tallied the eventual winner in the second half, giving the Blue & Gold its first-ever win in Division I play.
Lawro's goal, coming at 41:22 of the first half, was set up by
Daniel Ehlin (Kalmar, Sweden/Stagneliusskolan). Monmouth tied the match at one early in the second half before Kipness put the Chargers back in front off a setup from
Andres Lazo (Montville, N.J./Montville).
Archie Watts (Bristol, England/SGS College) denied five of six shots on goal for New Haven. The Chargers finished with five shots on target, with Kipness pacing the squad with a pair.
New Haven is back on the road for its next matchup on Monday, Aug. 25, in Providence, R.I. to take on the Friars of Providence College. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
