Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lawro's Highlight-Reel Goal Helps New Haven Move to 2-0 in Division I

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – New Haven Men's Soccer got its second-straight win on the road on Monday night, a 1-0 defensive battle that featured a SportsCenter's top play in the country by Lukian Lawro (Albertson, N.Y./Mineola).

The play, a bicycle-kick goal, has garnered close to one million views on social media, was set up by reigning NEC Player of the Week, Ryan Kipness (Stamford, Conn./Westhill) and Jacopo Suagher (Bergamo, Italy/Liceo Scientifico E. Amaldi). Kipness, controlling possession to the keeper's left, outside the penalty box, spotted a trailing Suagher and fed him the ball near the top left corner of the box. Suagher laid a one-touch pass over to Lawro, who had been camped at the top of the box. Lawro volleyed it to himself before leaping and pulling off the improbable–a flying bicycle kick goal that soared by the Friars' keeper and into the top left corner of the goal. The Lawro stunner was the only goal of the match.

Archie Watts (Bristol, England/SGS College) finished with six saves in the match, bringing his season total to 11 saves on 12 shots on goal.

New Haven travels to Dartmouth on Friday, Aug. 29, with opening kickoff between the Chargers and the Big Green slated for 4:00 p.m.
