Poughkeepsie, N.Y. -- New Haven Football opened its 2025 season on the road as it visited the Red Foxes of Marist University on Friday night. The Blue & Gold fell behind in the first quarter and could not muster a large enough comeback to open its season with a win, losing 31-14.
Marist posted a 17-point first quarter, highlighted by a 59-yard touchdown run on fourth down by Tristan Shannon.Â
New Haven got itself on the board in the second quarter as
AJ Duffy (St. Augustine, Fla./Rancho Verde) found
Evan Chieca (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) from five yards out to pull within 17-7. Duffy fired another touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, this time to
Logan Schmidt (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring). Schmidt's score made the game 24-14.
With under a minute remaining, a special teams miscue gifted the Red Foxes a touchdown, resulting in the 31-14 final.
Duffy finished 31/55 for 377 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Josh Tracey hauled in nine passes for 145 yards, and
Kevonne Wilder (Bronx, N.Y./) brought reeled in six catches for 95 yards.
Dre Kirton (Uniondale, N.Y./Holy Trinity) led the defense with 10 total tackles.
Luke Kelley (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) and
Sebastian Conwell (Bowling Green, Ky./Greenwood) each notched a sack, while
Sir Hezekiah Ragland (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) and
Pete Melle (Dallas, Tx./Dallas Jesuit College Prep) picked up half a sack each.
New Haven will travel to Northwest Pennsylvania on Saturday, Sept. 6, looking for its first win. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m.
