WEST HAVEN, Conn. – New Haven Field Hockey hosted its first Division I game on Friday night, a 4-0 loss at the hands of the Sacred Heart University Pioneers.
Freshman goalkeeper
Anne Marie Martin (Louisville, Ky.) stopped 16 shots from the Pioneers in her collegiate debut. Of the 16 saves, the Louisville, Ky.-native denied a penalty shot early in the first quarter, announcing her arrival to the collegiate field hockey scene with authority.
Abbie Volfman (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) picked up a defensive save in the fourth quarter with 4:07 remaining.
The Blue & Gold played a tight fourth quarter, finishing the final frame scoreless.
New Haven's next game is on Sunday, Sept. 14, as the team travels north to visit the University of Maine. Sunday's afternoon showdown is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
