TEANECK, N.J. – New Haven Women's Soccer traveled to the Harvard on the Hackensack on Sunday afternoon for a road match with the FDU Knights. New Haven held one-goal leads at two different periods but could not keep the Knights off for the rest of the match, falling 5-2.
The Blue & Gold got off to a fast start, with
Grace Simpson (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) opening the scoring in the ninth minute to put the Chargers ahead 1-0.
Emma Mitchell (Edinburgh, Scotland/Liberton) picked up a helper on the goal. The Knights evened up the game in the 24th minute. About 10 minutes later, Mitchell found the back of the net for the third time this season, putting the Chargers ahead once again, 2-1.
Just before halftime, the Knghts drew even again, making it a 2-2 game.
Three-second half goals for FDU powered the Knights to an eventual 5-2 win.
Caitlin Daley (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) went wire-to-wire in the match, stopping eight of 13 shots.
New Haven is on the road on Sunday, Sept. 28 in New Britain, Conn. for a 3:00 p.m. matchup with Central Connecticut State University.
