DURHAM, N.H. – New Haven Volleyball faced its first Division I opponent on Wednesday night on the road against the University of New Hampshire Wildcats. The Wildcats defended their home court and topped the Chargers 3-1.
The Chargers came out strong, winning the first set 25-23.
Naliah Grannell (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) helped score the first point of the match with a block.
Lauren MacKellar (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Northville) scored the Chargers next point with the first kill of the set. She paced the offense throughout the match with 10 kills and five blocks. Grannell held strong at the net with 10 blocks and five kills.
On defense,
Payton Malinoski (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) anchored the back row with 21 digs.
Juli De Acharan (Sevilla, Spain/IES Nestor Almendros) had 15 assists and
Caroline Johnston (Noelnsville, TN) also contributed with 12 assists, 11 digs, and two aces.
Despite the early momentum, New Haven fell short in the next three sets against the Wildcats.
The Chargers look to bounce back in their next match on the road at the Columbia University Tournament on Friday, Sept. 5
