NEW YORK, N.Y. – New Haven Volleyball went down south to compete in the Big Apple Tournament, hosted by Columbia University, on Saturday Afternoon. It finished out the Tournament against Northeastern University, where it lost 3-2.
The Chargers fell short against the Huskies in the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-18, respectively. They came back strong in the next two sets, winning the first and second set both by a score of 25-23. The Chargers got big performances from
Naliah Grannell (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) and
Kassadi Avent (Woolwich, NJ), who both had 12 kills. Setter
Caroline Johnston (Noelnsville, TN) contributed 22 assists, and
Payton Malinoski (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) again anchored the back row with 14 digs.
Unfortunately, the Huskies were able to top the Chargers in the last set, 15-9.
New Haven will be back on the road Tuesday Sept. 9
th to face Providence College in Rhode Island at 6:00 p.m.
