WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- New Haven's Men's Basketball team defeated Wagner on Saturday afternoon 80-74, behind 40 combined points from Najimi George (Bridgeport, Conn./Kolbe Cathedral) (21) and Kheni Briggs (Kennapolis, N.C./The Burlington School) (19). Both players set new career highs.
George added five assists to his game-high 21. Briggs' 19 was complemented by three steals. Among his 19 points was a bucket with seconds remaining, sealing the win. Following the basket, Jabri Fitzpatrick (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) stole the inbound pass, allowing the clock to bleed valuable time, before drawing a foul and going to the line with 5.8 seconds remaining. Teshaun Steele (Worcester, Mass./Darrow School) provided a boost off the bench with 10 points and 4 rebounds.
New Haven capitalized on Wagner turnovers, scoring 30 of its 80 points off turnovers. The Blue & Gold also experience its best game shooting, hitting at a 53.1% (26-49) rate from the field and an outrageous 53.6% (15-28) from distance. New Haven also sank 13 of 14 (92.9%) free throws, including a perfect five for five from Steele.
