WEST HAVEN, Conn. – New Haven Women's Basketball opened NEC play on Friday night, hosting Stonehill College. In its NEC opener, New Haven collected its first Division I win, 66-61 over Stonehill.
The Blue & Gold's 25-6 third stanza was enough to get by the Skyhawks.
Aniya McDonald-Perry's (Middletown, Conn./Putnam Science Academy) 23 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and three blocks stood out in a historic night for the program.
Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) finished with 15 points and six boards in her return to action and Teaira Kelly poured in 14 off the bench.
The Chargers held a 21-18 advantage in points off turnovers, 34-14 advantage in bench points, and 44-18 lead in points in the paint.
"Great conference win today. I really challenged them at halftime to want to win and switched our lineup. Eveani, Teaira, and Aniya changed the whole complexion of the game in the second half. It is great having Lindsay back. Our non-conference games helped prepare us for conference play," Head Coach
Debbie Buff said postgame.
New Haven will host in-state rival CCSU on Sunday, Jan. 4 at The Hazell Center. Tipoff will arrive at 1:00 p.m.
