WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Following its first win as a Division I program, New Haven Women's Basketball continued its NEC slate on Sunday afternoon, playing host to in-state rival Central Connecticut State University.
Aniya McDonald-Perry's (Middletown, Conn./Putnam Science Academy) 22-point, 11-rebound double-double powered the Chargers to their second win in a row. The Middletown, Conn. native finished a perfect 10-10 from the floor and converted on her only two free throws of the day. She also finished with three steals, the eighth time this season she has picked up three or more steals in a game.
Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) and
Addisen Sulikowski (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy) each posted 14 points. Hogan pulled down seven rebounds, and Sulikowski dished out a game-high six assists. All 17 players factored into New Haven's win.
New Haven jumped out to a 22-8 lead in the first quarter. The lead ballooned to 39-19 at halftime. The Blue & Gold also had an edge in points off turnovers (27-17), bench points (14-5), points in the paint (38-30), and second-chance points (14-6).
"Great overall win today. Aniya had another double-double. We had three in double figures and really shared the ball. It was great to get all 17 players in today," head coach
Debbie Buff said following the win.
New Haven will host the Le Moyne College Dolphins on Thursday, Jan. 8, continuing its home stand. Tip-off between the Chargers and Dolphins will arrive at 6:00 p.m.
