ERIE, Pa. – New Haven Men's Basketball dropped its Thursday night matchup with the Mercyhurst Lakers, 70-51.
New Haven had three players in double figures in
Andre Pasha (Syracuse, N.Y./Syracuse Academy of Science) (15),
Kheni Briggs (Kennapolis, N.C./The Burlington School) (11), and Najimi Geogre (11). Pasha's six rebounds led the effort on the glass while
Jabri Fitzpatrick (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) pulled down five and
Teshaun Steele (Worcester, Mass./Darrow School) and George each had four. Fitzpatrick and Steele tied for the team lead with three helpers each.
Mercyhurst did a lot of damage capitalizing on New Haven turnovers, outscoring the Chargers 13-2 in points off turnovers. The Lakers were also strong on the offensive glass with a 19-6 advantage in second-chance points.
The Blue & Gold hung with Mercyhurst in the second half, playing to a 29-26 result in the final 20 minutes. The glaring issue for the Chargers was their lack of ability to hit from distance. The team only converted one of 14 attempts from beyond the arc. At the other end, Mercyhurst converted on seven of 17 tries from deep.
Free throw shooting was also a struggle for New Haven, as it went 14-23 (60.9%) from the line. The Lakers knocked down 13 of their 15 attempts (86.7%) in the game.
New Haven will visit St. Francis on Saturday night with opening tipoff set for 7:00 p.m.
