NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – New Haven Men's Basketball made the quick trip to visit in-state rival Central Connecticut State University on Sunday afternoon. Strong shooting for the Blue Devils doomed New Haven in the contest.
The Blue Devils jumped out to a fast start, but New Haven weathered the storm and fought its way back to make it a six-point game at halftime, 35-29. Central opened up the lead by shooting 46.4% (13-28) from the floor, including a staggering 58.3% (7-12) from deep.
For the game,
Andre Pasha (Syracuse, N.Y./Syracuse Academy of Science) paced New Haven with 18 points, including hitting a pair of three-pointers.
Aidan Losiewicz (Douglas, Mass./Newman School) continued his breakout week with a 17-point effort.
Najimi George (Bridgeport, Conn./Kolbe Cathedral) was the only other Charger in double figures, finishing with 10. The Blue & Gold out-rebounded CCSU 35-28, led by
Stefano Faloppa (Portogruaro, Italy/Holy Cross Prep), who pulled down nine boards. George collected seven, and Pasha and Fitzpatrick each came away with four. Fitzpatrick and
Kheni Briggs (Kennapolis, N.C./The Burlington School) each finished with a trio of assists, playing the setup role for the Chargers.
Central scored more points off turnover (20-9), but New Haven had an edge in bench points (19-13), points in the paint (30-24), and second-chance points (16-9).
New Haven continues its NEC schedule on Thursday, Jan. 8, as it travels to Syracuse, N.Y., for a matchup with the Le Moyne College Dolphins. Opening tip is slated for 7:00 p.m.
